Terms of Use

These Terms govern your use of the Crossed Paths app (the “App”), operated by an independent individual developer (“we,” “us,” “our”). By downloading or using the App you agree to them.
1. What the App does
The App reads the location and date stored inside the photos on your device and builds a private map of the places you have been. From there it does two separate things:
- Connections. When you connect with someone using an invite code, the App shows the places you have both been and the times you were there days apart.
- Route twins. The App can also show you cards for other members whose photos land near yours. You swipe: a wave to the right, a pass to the left. When two people wave at each other it is a match, and a conversation opens.
The two are deliberately separate. A match is not a connection: nobody sees your map because you matched, and opening your maps to each other would be a further, explicit step.
2. Accuracy
Results are only as good as your photo metadata. Locations are grouped into cells — roughly one kilometre for connections, roughly eleven for matching — so an “overlap” means you were both in the same area, not necessarily the same room, building or event. Dates come from your camera's clock. The App never invents a result: if your metadata does not support it, it is not shown. Do not rely on the App for anything requiring certainty about someone's whereabouts.
3. Route twins: eligibility and conduct
The matching feature is for adults only — you must be 18 or over to use it. Your card appears in the pool once your photos have been scanned; you can leave the pool at any time from the Twins tab settings, which removes your card from every deck.
What you put on your card and say in a conversation is yours and your responsibility. You agree not to:
- use a photo that is not of you, or that you have no right to use;
- pose as someone else, or misstate your age;
- post nudity, sexual content, hate, or anything depicting a minor;
- harass, threaten, or keep contacting someone who has ended the conversation;
- advertise, solicit, scam, or ask for money;
- use the feature if you are under 18.
Both directions are voluntary. A wave is silent and nobody is told they were passed on. Either person can unmatch at any moment, which permanently removes the match and the whole conversation for both of you, without notifying the other side. Attempting to re-establish contact with someone who has ended a match is a breach of these Terms.
4. Reporting and enforcement
Any card or individual message can be reported from inside the App. Reporting also ends the match. We review reports and may take a card down, which removes it from every deck; the person is told in the App that this happened and why, and may edit their card. Serious or repeated breaches can end your access to the App entirely. We do not tolerate content sexualising minors and will act on it without warning.
Messages cannot be edited or deleted once sent: what was written is what a reviewer sees. We do not read conversations except the specific messages that are reported to us.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the App:
- to track, stalk, monitor or harass any person;
- to connect with someone who has not shared their invite code with you willingly;
- to attempt to identify or locate a person against their wishes;
- to collect, copy or republish other members' cards, photos or messages;
- to reverse engineer, disrupt or overload the service.
Connections are mutual by design: nobody appears on your map unless they chose to share a code, and either side can remove the connection, which removes it for both. We may terminate access for behaviour that endangers others.
6. Subscriptions
The App offers an optional auto-renewing subscription, Crossed Paths Pro. Pro adds Close calls (where and when you and a friend were in the same place on the same day, or only just missed each other), unlimited route-twin cards, and everyone who waved at you. Everything else is free without it: your own map, friends and the places you share with them, On this day, the poster, a daily taster of the route-twin deck, opening and answering 2 of the people who wave at you, and your matches and their conversations. Close calls need at least one friend, and route twins need a photo on your card.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
- The subscription renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account is charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel in your device's Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- Where a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
- Prices are shown in the App and may vary by region.
Refunds are handled by Apple under the Apple Media Services Terms; we cannot issue them directly.
7. Your content
Your photo library remains yours and never leaves your device. The map data you generate — coarse cells and, if you leave it on, rounded places — stays yours; you grant us only the limited permission needed to store it and compute overlaps with people you connect to.
Anything you deliberately publish to the matching feature — your card photo, age and bio, and the messages you send — remains yours as well. For those, you grant us the limited, non-exclusive permission needed to store them, show them to the people the feature is meant to show them to, and review them if they are reported. That permission ends when you remove the content, leave the pool, or unmatch, save for anything we must keep to enforce these Terms.
You confirm that you own or are entitled to use every photo you upload, and that any photo of a person is of you.
8. Availability
The App is provided “as is”. We may change, suspend or discontinue features at any time. Some features depend on third-party services (Apple, Google Firebase, RevenueCat) and may be unavailable if those services are.
9. Meeting other people
We do not verify anyone's identity, age or intentions, and we run no background checks. Everything on a card is what that person typed. You are solely responsible for how you interact with people you meet through the App, online or in person, and you should use the same caution you would with any stranger. Never send money to someone you have met here.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising from your use of the App, or for the conduct of any other member — online or offline. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms; the date above will change. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Sweden, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
